On behalf of both the Organisation & Scientific Committee and the International Advisory Board (IAB), it is a great pleasure to welcome you in Nantes, France, for DIOXIN 2020, the 40th International Symposium on Halogenated Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) from 30 August to 4 September 2020.

As the capital of western France, Nantes is number 2 in the country in terms of job growth. With its booming economy and thriving cultural scene, this human-sized city is one of the new up and coming European des nations. Situated on the Loire River, close to the Atlantic coast, Nantes is an ecofriendly city that successfully combines respect for the environment and quality of life. The Loire Valley is the third largest AOC (Protected Designa on of Origin) wine-growing region in France, part of which is classified as a World Heritage site by Unesco. Today, Nantes and the Pays de la Loire region is a center of excellence for a large number of key industries such as agrifoods, aeronautics, biotechnologies, sustainable development, culture and crea vity, complex composite and metal materials, mechanical industries, sea life sciences as well as health.

Also, with 2,200 researchers and 54,000 students from all over the world, Nantes is home to a wide and highly-recognized network of higher education schools and institutes. Nantes’ rich and turbulent past unfolds throughout the city, being successively a port open to the world, a driving force for the shipping industry, a source of inspira on for many surrealists, and for Jules Verne’s imaginary worlds. The weather in August in Nantes is almost perfect. Temperatures range from 20-28°C.
